What is Collaborative Fiction?

Hello.  I’m Lia, and I’m a writer.

I’ve tried to stop–especially when my fingers cramp up and my elbow locks–but I can’t.  Someone said, “I write so that I can turn the movies in my head off.”  Yep.  That’s me, too.  I’ve been writing things for people since grade school when I was first commissioned to write skits for assemblies.  There was some published poetry in there somewhere and many, many, many comic plays or edifying concert narrations written for non-profit organizations.  I even had a musical produced my freshman year in college.  Some of the stuff I’ve written is or will be published, and more information can be found about that under the My Books and Our Books tabs above.  You can also find out more at my Independent Author Network page or my Amazon author page.

Now-a-days, I find I don’t just want to write for others,

but rather with others.

So, if you’re here, you’re in a writing zone, and I really hope you’ll join in and have some fun with us.  I’m calling it “Collaborative Fiction” (because “interactive fiction” has already been taken….).

We go through the whole process of writing a book together–a great learning process for aspiring authors, and fun practice for the experience ones.  I put forth a “chapter” (or “episode”) and get feedback about where the story should go next.  Sometimes we stop to streamline our focus or tidy up the flow, and then we keep pressing forward until we have a viable rough draft (and really, it’s all a rough draft to this point).  Participants may also participate in the editing process and/or cover design, etc if they wish.  In every case, I have to make the final creative choices, and I am the one doing all the writing, but you are part of it in a very real way, and you get credit for it in the acknowledgements page in the final product.  (And if we ever strike it rich, I’m willing to share…but that means collaborative marketing, too…)

We have a lot of fun together, and in the end, there’s a very real keepsake for our efforts–a whole book we can show off and say, “I came up with that part!  That was my idea!!”

We’ve had a great deal of fun so far, and if you need something to get your creative juices flowing–or you just like bossing authors around–please consider joining us.  Our current project is a young adult sci-fi adventure called The Gypsy Pearl.

In-between stories,  you’ll see lots of writing tips.  The sidebar has a list of topics to help you find what you’re looking for.  This is where the teacher in me gets to have fun (I’ve been tutoring and/or professionally teaching English for 30 years.).  If you need help with a specific writing problem and can’t find a post on the topic, contact me!

In all cases, your comments are crucial.

You help me know what works for this site by helping know what works for you.
