Bringing our city to your living room

If you’re brave enough to venture out so soon after New Year’s Eve, then put down your yoga mat, toss aside your kale smoothie and follow the music to Mick’s Garage on Saturday night.

After all, going to Mick’s isn’t like throwing yourself into a dark, dingy nightclub — the Hackney Wick venue is a friendly neighbourhood warehouse, so you can tell yourself it doesn’t really count.

A working warehouse for Crate Brewery by day, the only hint of a club is the giant disco ball hanging from the ceiling. By night, the beer barrels are wheeled out and the space transforms into an atmospheric night spot with an impressive Funktion One sound system. The production is minimal, with a pair of lasers and a big strobe — you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in Amsterdam or Berlin.

Talking of Berlin, Roi Perez, Saturday’s headlining act, is a Berghain and Panorama Bar resident. Roi is a gifted selector and is renowned for his extended sets and technical brilliance. Expect deep and groovy house and seamless movement between styles.

With a similar sound but from a very different place, Liverpool’s Breakwave will bring a UK flavour to proceedings. A force behind the decks, she has her own label called Meine Nacht and likes to mix music that is “wonky but functional for dancing”. Expect the unexpected.

Insider Tip: Before you head in, enjoy a beer, some pizza and chilled vibes at The White Building opposite .You could also try Silo, the new zero-waste restaurant (all from the founders of Mick’s Garage).
