The Metropolitan line will be partially shut for the rest of the week

If you rely on the Metropolitan line to get in, out and around London, we’re afraid we have some bad news. A large section of the magenta line will be shut this week.

There won’t be any Metropolitan services between Baker Street and Aldgate from Monday November 3 until Saturday November 8. That means no Metropolitan trains stopping at major stations like King’s Cross St Pancras, Euston Square and Liverpool Street. Services are expected to be back up and running by Sunday.

The week-long cancellation is down to a track fault at Baker Street. Apparently, there is a crack in the points, which are the complex set of junctions that allow the Metropolitan line and other lines to converge at Baker Street. TfL says that halting the services will help ease pressure on the line while engineers fix the issue, but warns that it could cause minor delays on other parts of the line.

So, if you’re travelling into central London, you can use Circle or Hammersmith & City line services instead. And if you’re travelling further out, you can change back onto the Bakerloo line at Baker Street. There’s also the option to catch the Jubilee line from either Finchley Road or Baker Street. Find all the live updates from TfL here
