Almost all of London’s airports are not in the city at all. They are, in fact, miles out in the surrounding countryside, which often make them a real pain to get to. Stansted, for example, is 40 miles beyond the capital in Essex. Granted, the existing connections to Stansted aren’t bad at all, but a new service has just launched that will make travel to the airport even more convenient from one part of the city.

Instead of trekking to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale to catch the Stansted Express, north Londoners can now hop on a coach from Finsbury Park, Wood Green or Enfield to Stansted Airport instead.

The service will run every 45 minutes and will take one hour and 40 minutes to get from Finsbury Park to the airport. (although you should leave with plenty of time to spare in case there’s particularly bad traffic on the roads).

The journey takes a little more time than taking the train but, if you book well in advance, it’s a cheaper option. With Flibco, you can get a return ticket for as little as £13. That ticket includes one hand luggage and one checked luggage.

It’s hoped that the new connection will offer a greener and cheaper alternative to private car travel for passengers and people who work at the airport. Its launch aligns with the British government’s ‘Better Connected’ strategy, which aims to reduce reliance on private vehicles, ease pressure on roads and lower carbon emissions.

Steve Mills, Stansted’s Surface Access Strategy manager, said: ‘London Stansted is the UK’s number one major airport for public transport use by passengers with nearly 50 percent travelling by coach, bus or train.

‘These new services to and from Finsbury Park and Enfield, plus our growing and successful partnership with Flibco, will help us maintain and build on our proud track record as the airport continues to grow.’
