London’s best airport is opening its first ever luxury lounge

Figuring out why London City Airport ranks among the best in the country is easy. For starters, its central location makes journeying to and from the aviation hub pretty much faff-free. Once inside, you’ll breeze through check-in, bag-drop, security and passport control thanks to the minimal queues (a rarity among London airports). Plus, its swanky departure lounge was upgraded not too long ago, with the addition of new restaurants, an expansion to its duty free selection and 30 percent more seating. Yep, its stellar reputation makes sense.

If that wasn’t enough, City Airport has just announced its very first luxury pre-flight lounge. The entrance to the new space has been designed to emulate a swanky five-star hotel lobby, and once inside, it’ll be decked out with a central cocktail bar and a barista station serving locally roasted coffee. Its food and drinks menu will feature rotating options, some of which will be sourced from and inspired by the airport’s surroundings

For those travelling on business, a dedicated workspace will have plenty of seating and private booths to provide a space for work calls.

The hospitality experience isn’t linked to any particular airline, meaning all departing passengers are welcome to indulge. Construction on the fancy lounge is in progress, with plans to open in early 2027. Entry prices haven’t been revealed yet, but we can tell you that when it opens you’ll be able to book a space online or walk straight in and pay. The aviation hub has also hinted at annual memberships for regular jet setters.

City Airport has plans to grow its passenger numbers to nine million a year in the future, with more flight routes and new planes, making a bougie space to escape the crowds even more tempting.

Did you see that this new hypersonic plane will go from London to Australia in just three hours?

Plus: an opening date has been revealed for London’s new Smithfield and Billingsgate markets.
