London snow January 2025: new snow warning is in place for the capital this week

The capital has already had its first snowfall of 2025. If you missed the short flurry, you can take a look at just how pretty London looked here. The freezing cold air isn’t going anywhere, though. Just a few days later, some parts of the city are set to get a second round of the white stuff.

The Met Office has issued yellow snow warning for London, beginning at 9am on Wednesday, January 8 until midnight the same day. North Londoners, you’re safe — the warning only covers southern areas of the city, including Croydon, Crystal Palace and Bromley.

Don’t get your hopes up just yet, though – snow isn’t 100 percent guaranteed. Mike Silverstone, deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, explained: ‘Whilst not all those in the warning area may be affected, it is possible that that 2-5cm of snow may accumulate fairly widely.

‘Whether this system will brush the south of the UK or miss us altogether still remains a little uncertain, but we’ll continue to assess this over the next day or two. Weather warnings may well be updated, so it’s important people stay up to date with the forecast.’

Across the capital, forecasters predict temperatures that’ll feel as low as -2C on Wednesday morning and 0C throughout the rest of the day. Later on in the week, there will still be an icy chill in the air. No more snow is forecast beyond Wednesday, but according to BBC Weather there is a chance of sleet.
