It was with heavy hearts that we announced in April that Hacha would be shutting the bright blue doors to its Dalston home. After seven years on Kingsland Road, the legendary cocktail bar – famed for its mirror margaritas – waved goodbye to its OG venue.
The news came just months after the bar announced that it was being turfed out of its second site in Bermondsey’s Bermonds Locke Tower Bridge in October. Co-founder Deano Moncrieffe took to Instagram to explain that ‘continuing in our current form with only Dalston is no longer sustainable’.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom, though, because Hacha was already on the hunt for a new, larger venue to host its agave-based concoctions moving forward. Moncrieffe also teased exciting news coming ‘very soon’ about plans for the summer.
Now, we come bearing good news for mezcal junkies in west London. From next week, Hacha is taking over the downstairs lounge at Mexican restaurant Ixchel in Chelsea. Running from June 18 to August 31, the summer residency will include a programme of drinks events as well as weekly resident DJs spinning perfect Tequila-pairing tracks.

As for the all-important drinks on offer, alongside the bar’s signature mirror margs, we can expect a salted pomegranate twist on the classic tequila-based serve. The ‘miles away’ will also be on offer at Ixchel’s Nocturna Lounge – combining passion fruit-infused mezcal, charred pineapple juice and aperol. Plus, Hacha’s paloma combines tequila blanco with homemade agua fresca, grapefruit soda and salted Okinawa liqueur. Mouth watering yet? Yep, us too.
Ixchel, 33H King’s Rd, London SW3 4LX. June 18 to August 31.
